OpenAI Warns of AI Job Shock and Proposes Radical 4-Day Workweek and Robot Tax

The tech world is buzzing after OpenAI released a radical new policy document. The Industrial Policy for the Intelligence Age report warns that artificial intelligence is moving toward superintelligence. This means systems could soon outperform smartest humans at almost any task. OpenAI admits this transition will likely cause massive job shock across many industries.

To handle this the company is proposing a complete overhaul of how we work and pay taxes. They believe governments must act now to keep people first in a changing economy.

One of the most striking ideas is the push for four day workweek. OpenAI suggests that companies should run pilots of a 32-hour week with no reduction in pay. The idea is that AI will make workers so much more productive that they can finish their work in less time.

Instead of just increasing corporate profits this efficiency dividend should be returned to employees in the form of more free time. The company frames this to ensure that automation benefits many rather than just few.

The document also calls for a robot tax to fix modern tax system. Currently many governments rely on labor income and payroll taxes. If AI takes over jobs this tax revenue will disappear. OpenAI proposes shifting tax base toward corporate income and capital gains. They also suggest new taxes specifically linked to automated labor. This would ensure that companies using advanced AI still contribute fairly to public services like Social Security and Medicaid.

Finally OpenAI is pushing for a public wealth fund. This fund would invest in AI boom and distribute the returns directly to every citizen. It would give everyone a financial stake in success of the technology, regardless of their job status.

The company also wants to see stronger safety nets including unemployment benefits that kick in automatically during AI-driven downturns. These proposals show major shift in how tech leaders view the future of society. AI becomes cheaper than human labor and these radical steps may become necessary to prevent massive inequality.
