Specific Fee Increases for Indian Students and Skilled Workers Revealed

The British government has officially updated its price list for all immigration categories. As of April 8, 2026, almost every visa for the United Kingdom is more expensive. Most fees have climbed by roughly 6 to 7 percent to keep up with rising costs. This is not a small change for families in India who are already dealing with high exchange rates. The Home Office says the extra money will help make the system more digital and secure. However for the average applicant it just means a bigger hole in their savings. You need to know the exact numbers before you start your application.

For Indian students, the cost of a visa has jumped from 524 pounds to 558 pounds. This is a direct increase of 34 pounds per person. While it might seem small compared to tuition it adds to the upfront burden. Short-term students who are coming to study English for less than a year will now pay 228 pounds. These prices apply to both the main applicant and any dependants they bring along. You also have to remember the Immigration Health Surcharge which remains a massive yearly expense for anyone staying over six months in the country.

Skilled workers are facing even higher jumps in their application costs. A standard work visa for up to three years now costs 819 pounds, up from the old price of 769 pounds. This is a 50 pound increase that hits professionals in IT and healthcare. If you are applying for more than three years the fee climbs to 1,618 pounds. Even the India Young Professionals Scheme has seen a price hike to 340 pounds. Tourists are not safe from the changes either. A standard six-month visit visa now costs 135 pounds instead of the previous 127 pounds.

The most expensive part of the system is still settlement and citizenship. Applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain now costs a staggering 3,226 pounds per person. This is a jump of nearly 200 pounds from last year. British citizenship for adults has also risen to 1,709 pounds. The only good news is for children where some registration fees were actually reduced to 1,000 pounds. These new rates are live on all official portals right now. You must pay the new price even if you started your form last week. Stay tuned for more updates on global travel costs.
